Blowing air through pig iron to make steel.
- Pear-shaped steel vessel — a pour partie. A steel vessel with a refractory lining.
- Tuyeres — a pour partie. Holes in the bottom for blowing air through.
- Trunnions — a pour partie. They tilt the converter to pour out the steel.
- Fonte — utilise. Molten pig iron is blown with air.
- Oxidation — utilise. Oxygen in the air burns out the carbon.
