A shaft furnace for smelting pig iron.
- Soufflet — a pour partie. Air was blown in by bellows, later by blowers.
- Coke — utilise. The fuel and reducing agent is coke (formerly charcoal).
- Charbon de bois — utilise. Before coke, blast furnaces ran on charcoal.
- Stone — est fait de. The shaft of a blast furnace is stone.
