Forge und screw press: was sie gemeinsam haben

1. Schritt 1. Forge — hat als Teil — Blasebalg. Bellows fan the fire of the forge.
2. Schritt 2. Blasebalg — ist Teil von — Player piano. Pedal bellows create suction.
3. Schritt 3. Player piano — funktioniert wie — Jacquard loom. A perforated medium controls a machine — a weaving one in one case, a musical one in the other.
4. Schritt 4. Jacquard loom — funktioniert wie — Gutenberg printing press. An analogy, not proven influence: both set type and a chain of punched cards are a replaceable pattern that a machine reproduces over and over.
5. Schritt 5. Gutenberg printing press — hat als Teil — Screw press. Gutenberg adapted the screw press known from pressing grapes.
