Forja e screw press: o que têm em comum

1. Passo 1. Forja — tem como parte — Fole. Bellows fan the fire of the forge.
2. Passo 2. Fole — faz parte de — Player piano. Pedal bellows create suction.
3. Passo 3. Player piano — funciona como — Jacquard loom. A perforated medium controls a machine — a weaving one in one case, a musical one in the other.
4. Passo 4. Jacquard loom — funciona como — Gutenberg printing press. An analogy, not proven influence: both set type and a chain of punched cards are a replaceable pattern that a machine reproduces over and over.
5. Passo 5. Gutenberg printing press — tem como parte — Screw press. Gutenberg adapted the screw press known from pressing grapes.
