Power line and mechanical clock: what they have in common
- Step 1. Power line — has part — Copper wire. Wires (often aluminium).
- Step 2. Copper wire — is part of — Inductor. A winding.
- Step 3. Inductor — is part of — Oscillator. An LC circuit.
- Step 4. Oscillator — is part of — Atomic clock. A quartz oscillator is tuned to the atoms.
- Step 5. Atomic clock — evolved from — Quartz clock. The quartz oscillator is tuned to an atomic standard.
- Step 6. Quartz clock — evolved from — Mechanical clock. Quartz clocks replaced mechanical ones: a vibrating quartz crystal took the place of the pendulum and balance.
