Yoke and heat pump: what they have in common
- Step 1. Yoke — is used in — Plough. It was pulled by oxen in a yoke.
- Step 2. Plough — evolved into — Steel plough. A steel share.
- Step 3. Steel plough — is used in — Tractor. Ploughing with a tractor.
- Step 4. Tractor — evolved from — Watt steam engine. The first tractors were steam-powered.
- Step 5. Watt steam engine — inspired — Thermodynamics. Carnot wrote “Reflections on the Motive Power of Fire” trying to understand steam engines.
- Step 6. Thermodynamics — is used in — Heat pump. A heat pump moves heat from cold to warm by spending work — by the laws of thermodynamics.
