Flip-flop and autoclave: what they have in common
- Step 1. Flip-flop — has part — Vacuum tube. The first flip-flop used vacuum tubes.
- Step 2. Vacuum tube — uses — Vacuum. Electrons fly in an evacuated bulb.
- Step 3. Vacuum — is used in — Barometer. The Torricellian vacuum above the mercury.
- Step 4. Barometer — works like — Manometer. Both measure pressure with a column of liquid: a barometer measures the air around us, a manometer the pressure inside a vessel.
- Step 5. Manometer — is part of — Autoclave. The gauge shows whether the steam pressure in the chamber is high enough to sterilize.
