Voltmeter and submarine: what they have in common
- Step 1. Voltmeter — works like — Ammeter. They are built alike, but an ammeter goes in series with the circuit and a voltmeter in parallel.
- Step 2. Ammeter — uses — Direct current. In a school circuit the ammeter shows the direct current from the battery.
- Step 3. Direct current — is used in — Voltaic pile. It produces direct current.
- Step 4. Voltaic pile — evolved into — Lead–acid battery. Planté’s battery developed the idea of a chemical current source by making it rechargeable.
- Step 5. Lead–acid battery — is part of — Submarine. Underwater, electric motors run on batteries.
